Renzo Gracie Academy, UB Athletics and Krav Maga Institute all offer self defense seminars. Online self-defense courses are also available. The following article will provide more details. UB Athletics

Students interested to combat violent behavior may be offered self-defense workshops by UB Athletics. These seminars are only available to students who have a valid UB Student Card or Intramural Sports Permit Card. While participating in intramural sports, students are expected to be polite towards both opponents and staff. An offense can result in the University suspending a team, declaring forfeits against either one or both of their teams, and/or stopping a contest.

These workshops are taught by Rape Aggression Defense instructors certified by the University at Buffalo Police Department. This workshop is open to all who are interested in prevention of sexual assault. They are open to everyone in the UB Community and are free. Participants may attend any of the workshops as long as they're UB students. Seminars on sexual assault are offered for both men and women. Renzo Gracie Academy

Greenpoint's Renzo Gracie Academy hosted a self-defense class for women on March 19. Arthan Bandeira, instructor at the academy, was the guest instructor. After several requests from her clients, Chen and Bandeira set up the seminar. The two have been training together three years now and have been practicing at the least twice daily. In the first seminar students were taught the basics of self defense.


Master Renzo Graci, 6th degree black belt, is the instructor. Renzo was born and raised in Brazil. He moved to New York in 1998. The academy's renowned teaching style is based on a system of principles that can prevent a person from being attacked. The academy's famous teaching method teaches students how to build confidence, fight well, and keep calm under pressure. They are encouraged by their instructors to practice the martial arts in small groups and to take control of their bodies to protect themselves.

Krav Maga Institute

New York's Krav Maga Institute is a respected self-defense training school. They focus on teaching an open-source, stress-tested, reality-based self defence system. The institute offers workshops that are suitable for groups and employees who want to increase their self-confidence. The seminars are taught by renowned instructors who have extensive experience training corporate events in the city.
